A lot of caterers have a website that’s either outdated, painful on a phone, or simply don’t have a well thought-out user-experience(UX) designed for their website. Here’s the reality: most people looking for a caterer are on their phone. If your site is slow, text is tiny, or the “Get a quote” or “Contact” option is hidden or confusing, they leave. Another killer is a form that’s broken, goes nowhere, or never gets a reply. You’re not losing them because your food isn’t good, you’re losing them because the next step isn’t obvious or reliable. Below is a no-BS checklist to fix it.
One primary action above the fold
As soon as someone lands on your site, they should see one main action: “Get a quote,” “View menus,” or “Request a proposal.” Put it in a clear button or link above the fold (no scrolling to find it). Everything else-about you, gallery, testimonials-supports that. If you have three competing buttons, you dilute focus. Pick one and make it big and tappable.
Make the site mobile-first
Most of your traffic is on a phone. So:
- Big tap targets - Buttons and links large enough to tap with a thumb; no tiny “Submit” buried in small text.
- Readable fonts - No 10px body text. Aim for at least 16px equivalent so people don’t have to zoom.
- Fast load - Compress images, avoid heavy themes. If the page takes more than a few seconds on a slow connection, you’ll lose people.
Test the whole flow on your own phone: open the site, find the quote/contact option, and fill it. If it’s annoying for you, it’s worse for a busy planner or bride.
Show your best work so they can imagine their event
Visitors need to see that you can deliver. Add:
- Photos of real events - Plated meals, buffets, setup, atmosphere.
- Sample menus or packages - Even “starting from” or “sample menu” helps.
- Short testimonials - A sentence or two and a name (and event type if possible).
Put these where they’re visible without endless scrolling. The goal is: “This is exactly what I need for my wedding/corporate event.”
One working way to get a quote-and answer fast
You need one path that actually works: a form, a “Call / WhatsApp” button, or a booking link. If it’s a form, make sure submissions go to an inbox you check and that you reply within 24 hours. If you can’t do that, use a booking link (e.g. Calendly) or a clear “WhatsApp us for a quote” button. A simple site with one reliable contact method beats a fancy site where inquiries get lost or answered a week later.
A simple site that converts beats a fancy one that doesn’t
You don’t need every bell and whistle. You need: one clear CTA, mobile-friendly layout, fast load, proof (photos + testimonials), and one contact method you actually respond to. Fix those first. Then iterate. Your food does the rest once the site does its job.
